It will officially be released this friday (Nov. 22nd) on the awesome label Va Fongool both digitally, on CD and on vinyl.
We're very happy to present our main master project, the brand new TENTET, featuring some of our favourite musicians from the Norwegian music scene. Today's first session was awesome, and very inspiring. So excited to get to play with this great bunch! The music will take form from improvisation and compositions that divide the ensemble into smaller parts, with two or more structures moving at the same time. More info will follow! Peace and love. From left to right: Erlend Albertsen (bs), Kjetil Jerve (pno), Ola Høyer (bs), Hans Hulbækmo (dr), Andreas Wildhagen (dr), Rob Waring (vib), Jørgen Mathisen (ts), Henrik Munkeby (trb), Erik Kimestad Pedersen (trp), Kasper Værnes (as) Thanks to Jonas Cambien for taking the quick photo! Thanks to the Norwegian Academy of Music and their collaborations with the Conservatory in Nürnberg our quartet with Erik Kimestad and Erlend Albertsen got to travel to this beautiful German city.
Our concert was held in the Heilig Geist (Holy Ghost) Concert Hall, and the room had great acoustics. It was also recorded by the Bayerischen Rundfunk Radio, and we even got to be interviewed by the nice Jazz Radio hostess Beate Sampson. All the people we met were very friendly and helpful, and we were happy to see other concerts by the local students and faculty led by the guest stars Marcio Bahia and Jovino Santos Neto from Hermeto Pascoal's band and New York saxohponist Scott Robinson. The radio show with our concert and interview will be broadcast in September. Thanks to all involved, and special thanks to Steffen Schorn and Morten Halle for inviting us. Hope to be back soon! (photo by Achim Schäfer) This day we went to see the MoMa - Museum of Modern Art. It was an amazing experience.
Now we are waiting for the second set of Bill McHenry's quartet at the Vanguard (see photo). We have seats right by Andrew Cyrille's kit. This week we are staying in the "Piano Room" in TriBeCa. Our host Mark Hennen, a great piano player and technician, has among other instruments the original grand from the Half Note club - played by among others Lennie Tristano (check the video on YouTube). It is being restored and has a fantastic sound. This Saturday we will perform at a musician's party in Williamsburg together with saxophonist Danny Meyer - and everyone is invited! Concert, hang, jam, the works! 141 S 5th St. apartment 2E at 7pm. Thanks for tuning in, Kjetil & Andreas |
